Abstract
Recent advances in the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia have led to higher
remission rates and to modest increases in remission duration and survival. These
favorable therapeutic results are due to well developed antileukemic agents, various
combination chemotherapies, immunotherapy,and supportive treatments.
A recent study for combination chemotherapy in AML by the UCLA acute leukemia
study group has revealed complete remission rates of 82% with TAD method. However,
domesic reports for the effectiveness of the TAD method in treatment of AML have not
been introduced. So, we began a study with 10 previously untreated AML patients from
April, 1980 to March, 1982 with TAD combination chemotherapy.
Results of this study are as follows:
1) Age distribution is from 16 years to 49 years, 27.9 years average.
2) Complete remission rates of 30% (3 out of 10) and partial remission rates of 20%
(2 out of 10) were obtained.
3) The three patients who registered complete remission and are alive today with
survival periods of 8,16, and 26 weeks(reported as of March, 1982).
